Oriol Vilapuig's artistic work adopts the form of essay as a procedure and methodology. Essay as a form of study and open enquiry, a drift always in progress that overflows any imaginary, and essay also as a way of defining or questioning the limits of our experience. This experience is made visible, to a large extent thanks to tradition, understood as that which precedes us. Hence the constant use in his works of quotations and the appropriation of other authors, which also appear in the form of writing.
His work is inscribed in the desire to create imaginaries around reiterated themes of our collective memory such as desire, loss, eroticism, the body, fear, language and time.
This repeated use and work with images is conditioned by a kind of poiesis, that is to say, a trigger that produces meaning and invites us to consider both the position of the artist and the positions of those who approach them.
His exhibitions include La por més antiga, Galeria Joan Prats, Barcelona 2012. Contemporary Cartographies. Caixa Fòrum, Barcelona, Madrid 2012. Episodis crítics (1957 - 2011).
